Focus danse

Introduce French artists and works
9 new and recent pieces
Promote connections between professionals from France and abroad
Encourage new synergies that drive the production and dissemination of French works

The Focus danse event aims to help French and foreign professionals scout the French choreographic scene. Initiated in 2008 by the Lyon Dance Biennale and Culturesfrance, Focus danse has enjoyed growing success in its first two editions; in 2010 it attracted over 550 professionals from 34 countries worldwide. Focus danse now wants to develop its role as an international springboard for disseminating dance, by opening up more strongly to countries where dance is still poorly represented.
Focus danse – devised by the Lyon Dance Biennale, the Institut Français and the network of French cultural institutions abroad, the French office for contemporary performing arts circulation and the Rhône-Alpes Public agency for performing arts (NACRe) – offers professionals a tailored programme, to discover new artistic forms and share their practices.
From 19 to 22 September 2012, dance programmers, choreographers and critics will gather for a four-day forum of performances, encounters and debates. Nine French companies that blend disciplines – dance, theatre, visual arts – will present their work; and these pieces, “made in Lyon” creations or recent works, will give professionals a very topical and representative snapshot of the local wealth and diversity of choreographic output.
In line with the 15th Lyon Dance Biennale, Focus danse emphatically embraces cross-disciplinary practice and aesthetic ferment, and invites consideration of dance as a major art.
